The Regional Issues Focus offers three programs to help students acquire an understanding of regional areas and their various issues and gain professional knowledge. While students will focus on one core program they have chosen in accordance with their interests, they will also participate in other programs in a cross-disciplinary fashion to ensure comprehensive and integrated learning.
Society and Environment Program

Solve regional problems with coexistence of humans and nature in mind
Students will analyze regional problems from many different perspectives, including water, soil, and organisms, and basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing along with culture, industry, and public policy. The purpose of this program is to nurture generalists of humanity and nature who can deliver concrete solutions and strategies.

Integrated Learning of Mercy and Cruelty of Nature and Human Life
Through classroom lectures, workshops, and fieldwork, students will gain knowledge and skills to conduct comprehensive analyses and propose solutions. We realize that basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing are at the mercy and cruelty of nature as we discuss agendas that range from tonight’s dinner to human survival that span time and space (e.g., climate change).

Students will acquire a wide range of knowledge and skills related to humans and nature that are imperative for analyzing regional issues. These include natural environment fundamentals and ecosystem service fundamentals.
Students will gain immediate knowledge and skills to enable them to analyze humans and nature and propose solutions to regional issues. Topics include Disaster Prevention, Geography, Resource Utilization, and Environmental Coexistence.
Regional Collaboration Program

Acquire a multi-layered perspective on regional areas and learn how to develop communities through collaboration
Regional areas comprise of multiple layers, including nature, history, culture, transportation networks, townscapes, and scenery. A region offers its residents, who live through production, consumption, exchange, and interaction, a number of occupations. The purpose of this program is to nurture individuals who can tackle local issues and collaborate to revitalize regional areas.

Our Community Development Leads to Regional Development in the World
Students will understand the multi-layered structure of regional areas and the components of a society, learn about industries that take advantage of local characteristics as well as municipal policy and planning, and study measures that sustain and develop local residents’ daily lives and businesses. This program adopts a multi-faceted and multi-layered approach in community development so as to enhance individual lives.

Students will study cityscapes and townscapes as well as transportation systems in Urban Planning and Geography. Topics include Regional Area Housing Theory and Geography Studies.
Students will learn measures to revitalize regional areas, thus ensuring that towns and their residents are happier. Topics include Event Management Theory and Sports Culture Theory.
Diversity and Inclusion Program

Building a society where a diverse group of people can live as themselves
Residents have various lifestyles and comprise different ages, genders, sexualities, disabilities, nationalities, cultures, and religions. The purpose of this program is to nurture individuals who will listen to the needs of these diverse groups of people, promote interactions, and support community development where everyone is afforded the opportunity to lead enriching lives.

From global and local perspectives, students will learn about the social background and facts related to the decreasing birthrate, aging society, and globalization. These programs will help students to understand the benefits and issues that such aspects cause in regional societies. Moreover, they will promote flexible ideas and the ability to take action to address various social issues to support the health and happiness of individuals with diverse needs.
