Introduction

Shaping our Future through Regional Creation Ability

We all hope to live happy lives, yet our regions have various problems that interrupt our secure livelihoods. The School of Regional Development Studies is a multidisciplinary school established in 2008 for producing leaders in regional development who are able to respond to regional problems practically while using the various resources of regions.

Leaders in regional development are required to have multiple abilities, including: the “ability to feel and explore regions”, which is the ability to understand region-specific conditions and identify problems; the “ability to manage regions”, which means to analyze regions and propose solutions using professional expertise and technology; and the “ability to make regions sustainable”, namely, the ability to consider the future of regions and act with regional people. Collectively, we have named these abilities “Regional Creation Ability”.

To grow Regional Creation Ability, we must have a strong interest in regions, broad perspective, professional knowledge, and multifaceted, comprehensive judgment skills. In addition, we are required to cooperate with people in various fields, and enable and inspire others to act and succeed our work. At our school, it is possible to study broadly, theoretically and practically through lectures, practical exercises and seminars in a wide range of study fields of various regions.

Regional communities need people with Regional Creation Ability. We are looking forward to nurturing and working together with students who are interested in different regions in Japan and foreign countries, and who hope to contribute to solving regional problems.
